Disney’s Moana 2 is set to release in theaters on November 27, 2024. This highly anticipated sequel follows Moana, now 19 years old, embarking on an epic new journey across the seas of Oceania. Guided by her wayfinding ancestors, she teams up once again with Maui, the demigod, as they explore dangerous and mysterious waters beyond her home island of Motunui.

Cast and Characters

• Auli’i Cravalho reprises her role as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui.
• Other returning characters include Moana’s parents, Chief Tui (Temuera Morrison) and Sina (Nicole Scherzinger), and her quirky pet rooster, Heihei.
• New additions to the cast include Moana's little sister, Simea, and a fresh group of wayfinding crew members played by Rose Matafeo and others.

Development and Animation

Originally planned as a Disney+ series, Moana 2 was reworked into a theatrical release. Directed by David Derrick Jr., the film was developed using cutting-edge animation, blending expertise from Disney’s Vancouver and Burbank studios. Maui’s tattoos will once again feature hand-drawn animation.

Music

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who contributed to the original Moana soundtrack, returns to compose new songs for the sequel, along with other talented artists.
